Job Details

The Associate Product Owner role is the champion of their product. As the voice of the customer within a cross-functional development team, he/she provides the focus for the team to execute upon. From a business perspective, he/she adds a degree of accountability to the day-to-day activity surrounding the product and ensures the engineering team is delivering the right features at the right time for Company customers.

Associate Product Owners support Product Owners in managing, refining, and prioritizing the Product Backlog, while transparently communicating its contents and state. With guidance and mentorship from Product Owners, they are also accountable for all activities surrounding a product. This includes ideation, design, development and the iteration of product features. Associate Product Owner also manage and collaborate with internal stakeholders to facilitate discussions and elicit feedback on current and future product features.

RESPONSIBILITIES, NOT LIMITED TO:

Pre-sprint
• Support the Product Owner in distilling epics (as defined in the Product Roadmap) down into Stories in the product backlog
• Assist in requirement gathering efforts on the epics/stories by consulting with all relevant stakeholders, including Product Managers, client facing teams (Sales/Account Management, Support, Customer Experience, and Project Management), and others.
• Participate in Product Prioritization and Backlog Grooming sessions with Product Managers, User Interface / User Experience Designers, Quality Assurance, Technical Writers, Architects, and Engineers.
• Document “Dev Ready” story details and acceptance criteria during and/or after Backlog Grooming sessions.
• Create mock-ups (if/when required) and work with User Interface / User Experience Designers on front-end designs
• Assist in driving the sprint goals in the Product and Engineering teams

During Sprint
• Attend scrum meetings including stand-ups, retrospectives, and demos
• Work collaboratively with Engineers and the Quality Assurance team to successfully deliver sprint stories and reach the “definition of done”
• Perform Product Management testing and validation, ensuring that user stories meet their acceptance criteria
• Work collaboratively with technical writers to ensure implemented functionality is well understood and documented

Post-Sprint:
• Assist Product Owner in demonstrating the latest iterations to internal stakeholders and gather feedback

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES:
• 1-2 years of previous product management or similar experience
• At least one year working experience in Scrum/Agile environments
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle
• Advanced written and verbal communication skills are a must
• Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
